Due to cost and a variety of other reasons, minority and low-income children are grossly under-represented in mountain biking. In order to increase participation and opportunity for these groups, we need to provide bikes, uniforms, equipment, race entry fees, and anything else they may need.
After operating under the East Coasters banner since 2008, we formed Star City Cycling in 2017 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. One of our primary objectives was to create opportunities for underprivileged kids who would not otherwise be able to participate in the sport.
To achieve that goal, we have formed a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia to make it possible for a number of their club members to join our team. Our intention is for these children to enjoy the same experience as every other kid on the team, and to participate fully in everything we do.
